Deputy Secretary-General of Hizbullah Sheik Naim Qassem: America Is the Great Satan

Following are excerpts from a public address delivered by Deputy Secretary-General of Hizbullah Sheik Naim Qassem, which aired on Al-Manar TV on June 4, 2007:

Naim Qassem: Imam [Khomeini] taught us to reject injustice, and to never accept the barbaric America, which is trying to take over the world. Many people have come up with terms to describe America. But let me be frank with you, I haven't found any term more beautiful, lofty, and noble than the term "the Great Satan" to describe America. America is indeed a great satan in this world in our times, and it will join Satan on Judgment Day.

[...]

If we describe America as a country that annihilates humanity and fans the flame of wars, we can see this image realized in America of our times, and it will continue to bear this description, because America feels it is strong and great, but America should know that the will of the peoples is stronger, and that our independence will define our true path. As long as there are people and groups in the world who believe in Allah, in their rights, in their land, and in their honor, Iran will never... America will never take root in our region, and the future will prove that our region belongs to us, and to our future generations. It will never belong to America, however arrogant and conceited it may be, and however much it tries to occupy or attack... The exporting of Iraq is evident to America, which is unable to remain there, and it will leave with greater failure than which it left Vietnam. Days will prove that America has no place among the oppressed peoples of our region.
